Foster a Dog

Open your home, save a life. Fostering a dog gives them the space, love and time they need to relax, recover and find their forever home — and it makes room for another life to be saved.

Foster a Dog

What It's All About

Taking a dog into your home doesn’t just change that dog’s life — it frees up space to rescue another from a rural shelter where they may face euthanasia. A foster home is a short-term safe haven where dogs can decompress, learn and get ready for adoption.

We work with you to find the right fit. Many of our dogs thrive in apartments, do well with children or other pets, and can adjust even if you work outside the home. Fostering takes love and a leap of faith, but you won’t be alone: our volunteer foster group helps you select a dog, guides you through pick-up, checks in along the way and offers ongoing advice. They’re fosters too — they get it.

While most of our dogs would love a foster home, we prioritize:

  • Puppies, nursing moms and seniors
  • Dogs who have been with us for a while
  • Dogs who don't thrive in a kennel
  • Dogs with medical needs

Foster vs. All the Paws Responsibilities

Foster parents provide

  • A safe and loving environment for a dog or puppy
  • Monitoring of health, well-being and temperament
  • Adoption advocacy: updates and photos for the pet's bio, attending adoption events, answering adopter emails
  • Food, bowls, toys and other supplies such as blankets or towels

All the Paws provides

  • An awesome house guest
  • Leash, harness and collar
  • Crate or puppy pen if needed
  • Access to donated items such as food, bowls, beds and toys
  • Support, guidance and pre-approved medical care
  • Adoption events and marketing for your foster dog
“When people hear that our family fosters puppies with All the Paws Animal Rescue, they think we’re doing a good deed. But believe me, we get so much back from the foster experience. To see a puppy develop trust and explore the world through play is a gift.”
